Why are the kids depressed?

These days I have seen lot of kids struggling to feel happy about life and being depressed for no reason.

To be honest, it hurts me deep inside to see their parents slogging their asses off and kids criticising their parents for the things their parents couldn't accomplish for them.

I tried to understand the reason behind this and as far as I see, I find the lack of human contact is the main reason that is driving them nuts. They don't have people to listen or to talk with them.

Most of them are living in this age of internet, looking for a false sense of accolades and appreciation through social media. Their loneliness is clearly visible with their social media activities.

They spend so much time in creating memes, videos putting everything they make on social media just for sense of validation for their creativity.

A life seeking for appreciation is a life of depression. If you are trying to please people or get yourself a validation from strangers about your identity, you are looking for depression.

When we are grown up (which I feel I have), you slowly build a mechanism in your brain to handle rejection, to stop looking for appreciation from strangers, to work around things for yourself and your people.

However, kids are not mature enough to understand how life works or how others will perceive their actions, so they keep tweeting funny stuff, creating memes or trying to get followers just to get a feeling of false achievement ,accomplishment and appreciation.

When these things get some attention on social media they feel happy about it but if it doesn't then it's just a rejection, a blunt rejection. Are they prepared to handle that rejection? Are they ready to understand that it's okay to not to be a cool guy, or just an ordinary person like me?

If they don't understand it, all this rejection is slowly breaking their spirits and to keep it alive these people start early with alcohol and other intoxication. For this rejection, they want an over compensation of love from their parents, which again is not possible as parents have to earn money, leading this to more loneliness and further depression.

If I could just lend a piece of advice to them, I would want the kids to go out, play some outdoor games, build some character, have some real buddies and enjoy a real life rather this virtual shit of social media. It's just not worth it to have your self esteem based on number of likes or followers, better make some real friends, who can stand up for you when you are down.
